Despicable Me - A Great Surprise From Universal Pictures

"Despicable Me" was a great surprise from Universal Pictures, being ranked as the sixth highest-grossing Universal's film. While "Shrek Forever After" and "Toy Story 3" made more adult-oriented accents this time, "Despicable Me" appeared to be a family-friendly and kid-centric treat.
Overall there are three categories of characters in the movie: villain, cute and slapstick. Gru (Steve Carell) handles the first one. Rude wouldn't be the right word to describe him, he is super-villain! He has a plan to steal the Moon, yes a true one! But he can't do it himself, he needs an army to help him, and he owns this army - these are minions, who handle the slapstick category. One can't help but fall in love with these yellow little guys. They are nice, funny and very entertaining. They speak their own language, but they also understand human speech. The pleasant thing about them is that they don't steal the show and, luckily, they are not the only happy part of the comedy.
The cutiest characters of this movie 2010 are surely the orphan girls: Margo, Edith and Agnes. Margo is the oldest and smartest among three sisters. Edith, this pink-hat girl, is a real tomboy and trouble maker. And the youngest is Agnes, the one with lovely voice appealing to the audience, making "aw.." the only response to her voice. Agnes has irresistible passion for unicorns, especially big and fluffy ones. The idea of using old names for such little sweet girls is just nice.
As the movie continues, the lines between these groups of characters blurs gradually. After the girls settle at Gru's house, they awaken the feelings so unusual, sometimes unnatural for him. He finds he can be a caring "dad" for the girls, and when in the beginning of the movie it was impossible to imagine Gru reading a bed time story, at the end of it there were some sentimental moment to share a tear drop or two.
What really steals the show is the voice cast. Gru's Russian accent and Agnes' (actually Elsie Fisher's) adorable voice are real trademark of this 2010 comedy. It was hard to recognize Julie Andrews behind Gru's mother, a bit malicious old lady who is fond of karate. And minions' dialect resembles Chip and Dale jabber. Indeed, the picture was great but voices were awesome!
Those who had a chance to enjoy "Despicable Me" in 3D were probably twice as much satisfied with this movie. There were some scenes that could really make your tummy tickle. If you haven't yet watch this movie, go watch it but don't forget to take your kids with you. The only despicable this about this animated movie is the one in it's title. Enjoy yourself with this refreshing comedy of 2010.
